Power Tools Tip - How To Choose A New Cordless Drill

By Miles Torx Wrench

Choosing Cordless Drills can be a tough process for some especially when you are not really sure what you're looking for. There are tons of brands out there available to the consumer and on first glance a lot of them look similar. The only real difference here is maybe the box color or the weight of the drill itself. The one of these things that happens to be important is the weight of the drill.

The weight of the drill has several important aspects involved with it. Obviously it's important if you're considering the duration of the time that you have to spend holding or using the drill. Will you be working in an area or environment where you have to hold the drill nonstop? If you answered yes to that question than it would be wise to purchase one that may be lighter for ease of use. Another important thing to consider when drill weight is involved is how much pressure you have to apply to the object you happen to be drilling.

Usually pressure applies a certain aspect to the drill as well. Weight sometimes is an indicator of how much pressure you can actually apply without over exhausting the drill. If you have a lighter drill you may not be able to drill through some materials that take a more stern press than others.

Another thing to consider is the reverse on the weight scale. If the drill is too light than there might be issues with usability as well. For instance, if you have a lightweight drill than you are going to be the one that needs to apply more weight and pressure to the drill. This can be an exhausting process for some, but is necessary if your drill is a lightweight model.

When thinking about the power of the drill, weight also plays a role. Usually the heavier the model of the drill the bigger the battery. However, the more power the drill has the faster the battery life can be consumed. It's good when considering power to review each of the drills you are looking at to see estimated battery life. This will at least give you something to base your decision off. If something doesn't seem right or you are still questioning the estimates always feel free to do some research on those brands.

These are just some things to consider when choosing cordless drills. Always make sure to do adequate research before purchasing new tools so you know what you need and what you can rely on. - 16477
