The Cordon or Wall System of Growing Grapes

By Abraham Kiyoski

The strong-growing varieties can be grown as cordons if the site is warm and the soil good. The rows have to be 6 feet apart and the cordons 10 feet apart in the rows. The cordons are trained horizontally and thus stakes and wiring must be provided. Under this system a stake with a minimum diameter of 3 inches, and preferably chestnut, should, when 2 feet of its base has been thoroughly treated with Cuprinol, be driven into the ground securely so that the top is 2 feet 3 inches above soil level.

The stakes can conveniently be 12 feet apart and a wire should run right the way along the top. I have used surplus telephone wire with success. Incidentally, another wire must be stretched a foot from ground level.

Once again in January cut back these 3 canes to within two buds of their base. Thus you will see that you are now producing your goblet-shaped bush with 6 branches. Each one of these 6 branches may carry six or seven bunches of grapes and the following January again they will be cut back to within two buds.

Red Spiders can be detected by examining the back of the leaf with a magnifying glass. Red Spider is a bad name. Yellow Mite would be better.

Each of these laterals is allowed to bear one bunch of fruit this season. As the cordon is to remain tied horizontally to the lower wire, these laterals are pruned back in January to within one plump bud of their base. This bud, of course, will grow the next spring and once again the lateral will be trained upwards and tied to the top wire. This next year it will probably bear two good bunches and the year after maybe three bunches. From then on the crop will be three or four bunches per lateral.

Those who don't believe in straw mulching may like to know that the prunings and foliage of healthy vines may be roto-tilled shallowly into the soil, in November, and so help to keep up the humus content. By rotary hoeing you smash up the prunings which then soon decompose. - 16477

How to care for your lawn and home garden

By Andrew Caxton

The best way to gain experience in home gardening and lawn care is to begin at the grass root level and make your way up the ladder. That sounds a bit complicated, but all you have to do is to grasp the basics correctly, especially if you are a novice in this field. As you gain familiarity with the various concepts, home gardening and lawn care will not seem a daunting task anymore.

Let me enumerate some of the important ingredients of lawn care and home gardening. Mowing comes first on the list as correct mowing can result in a stunning looking lawn. What you need to remember with mowing is that it is always better to mow high. The reason behind this is that if you mow short, the root system will lose its strength and you will then have a profusion of weeds in your garden.

Another method of avoiding weeds is to mow in a manner that does not follow routine but goes in different directions, like counter-clockwise, diagonal, clock wise etc. By mowing in a range of directions, the weeds are more likely to be clipped effectively and so the grass will have a proper chance to grow well.

Maintenance of your lawnmower is also a must-do thing. If the blades of the lawnmower are not sharp enough, then the whole purpose is defeated. Ideally the blades should be sharpened once during a year. It is vital that the blades are not fixed onto the lawnmower while you sharpen them. The reason why sharpened blades are a necessity is that bland mower blades do not cut the grass but only shred it and this imparts a white tinge to your lawn. Such a lawn is easily afflicted by various diseases.

Apart from mowing, watering is an integral part of caring for your garden or lawn. Watering has to be just sufficient and neither too much or too less. Similarly, you should never let too much time elapse between watering or water your lawn too regularly, as this could damage your lawn irreparably. Keep aside some time for watering your garden everyday. It is difficult to prescribe the exact amount of water needed for your lawn as this can vary depending on things like mowing height, species of grass, soil type, temperature etc.

The right kind of fertilization is also a crucial factor in home gardening and lawn care. Organic fertilizers like steer manure and activated sludge from sewage are some types of fertilizers even though compost is the fertilizer which is very effective as compared to the others. The advantage with compost is that it gives the right kind of nutrients for your lawn and it also provides the much needed organic matter for your lawn or any front yard landscape design assignment. - 16477

Concrete Polishing Blues

By Rick Amorey

Over the last few weeks, I've been writing articles regarding concrete polishing. I am thoroughly excited about the whole polishing process ever since I stumbled upon it while surfing the internet. I've told all the people I know about it, I invited friends over to see my polished floor, and of course, I've been writing about it as well.

What's so special about it? Concrete polishing has a number of desirable attributes. Combine the durability of good solid marble, the inexpensiveness of a cheap material like ceramic tiles, and the smooth, handsomeness of a material like hardwood. All of this in one package. It's been the best choice I've made for my house.

Of course, there are a few negative qualities about it. Make sure the concrete you're using can be polished, as not all concrete can be polished efficiently. A too porous surface, for example, will not have set well enough to have a proper shine after polishing. Note those concrete types that have a lot of cracks, patches and fixes. They can be polished, mind, but you will simply not be able to hide the fixes and your floor will not be perfect.

Pouring on a new layer of concrete on top of the damaged concrete might be a solution to this predicament. This would necessitate buying more concrete, but the cost will most likely be insignificant. Then again, I have been told this is not always a solution to the problem at hand. I must confess, I have yet to understand the exact readon for this, but it might have something to do with the new layer of concrete not settling with the old layer.

These setbacks, however, are relatively small and should not prevent you from having a polished concrete floor should you decide to opt for it. Concrete polishing is inexpensive, but at the same time, elegant and durable. To learn more, go to the Concrete Polishing website and ask around about polished concrete floors. - 16477

Tips on Growing Fruit Trees

By Daniel Cumming

It is all very well to tell the home fruit grower that this type of soil suits apples, another type of soil suits plums, and yet a third type, gooseberries or blackcurrants. The fact is that the normal man has to grow the various fruits he needs to supply his household, in the soil in the garden-whatever that soil may be.

What he can do, of course, is to try and suit the fruits to the soil, even though this may mean that lie will have to give up growing certain types which he is most anxious to produce.

The larger holes or tunnels in the soil are made by the earthworms, and these will frequently penetrate to a depth of 6 feet or more. Roots will actually go down these worm-holes, which in themselves enable the air and water, to circulate easily.

Twice in the year, i.e. in January and again in August, a fish manure with a 6 per cent potash content is applied along the rows over the grass mowings, at 4 oz. to the yard run.

If I have in one hand soil which I pick up in my own garden, it should contain something like 25,000,000 living organisms. These `bacteria' are not only there to help break down the plant foods so that they may be dissolved in the soil moisture taken up by the fruit tree. They are also there to secrete colloids which, by their `gummy' nature assist in the adherence of the mineral soil particles, forming as it were little crumbs.

A shallow sandy soil cannot hold sufficient water, but a really deep loamy soil which has been regularly fed with organic matter, will be able to retain more adequate reserves of moisture for the plants in the summer. It is the roots which collect the water and pass it up. They must therefore never be allowed to be killed in the winter by drowning. - 16477

How to Save Energy in Your Workplace

By Barry Miller

Whether you are an employee or a business enthusiast, you are to conserve energy not just to save on electric bills but more importantly, to help protect the earth. A workplace is a specific area where a worker or self-employed person is engaged in an occupation or any location that is used for professional purposes. Through this write-up, you would be encouraged to save energy in your workplace even if you do not pay for the electric bill.

It will truly make a huge difference if you can adopt some energy saving measures to help you reduce your use of electricity and possibly reduce some expenses. Listed below are some energy-saving tips designed and intended for workplaces and other offices.

Such television, radio, computers and other gadgets must be turned off after each use. Keep in mind that unplugging them or using some power strips can also make you save. Also, the lights must be switched off when it is not needed or when the natural light is enough to illuminate the room. That is why proper use of lighting is very important. Though investing in lots of energy-efficient appliances and other necessary devices at home can make spend more at the moment, believe that they can make you save in the long run. Buying such can be rewarding as they tend to consume lesser energy when in use, allowing you to have low electricity costs on a regular basis.

On the other hand, computer/s must be turned off after each use or you may just put it in standby mode if you do not want to shut it down.

Clean lighting fixtures regularly. Dirt lessens illumination by as much as 50%. One can work more effectively under good lighting which lessens the hours of operation of the lamps. On the other hand, poor lighting will make someone work longer, thus increasing electrical consumption. Regular cleaning of lamps will help provide proper lighting in your workplace or study room.

When shopping for appliances, you can think of two price tags. The first one covers the purchase price. Think of it as a down payment. The second price tag is the cost of operating the appliance during its lifetime. You'll be paying on that second price tag every month with your utility bill for the next 10 to 20 years, depending on the appliance. Refrigerators last an average of 20 years; room air conditioners and dishwashers, about 10 years each; clothes washers, about 14 years. Moreover, keep your appliances well maintained. They operate more efficiently and use less energy when in good working order. Maintaining them in good condition hit two things at the same time ? you save more energy and you prolong the lifespan and strengthen the durability of your domestic devices. - 16477

Polished Concrete

By Jorscen Malapitan

Polished concrete simply means concrete that has been polished to a glossy shine. The equipments used for polishing or sanding concrete are available in the modern markets and your contractor will help you choose which is the best one.

If your house is built on concrete foundation, concrete polishing would be an easy task. Just a simple refining to smoothen out the uneven surface or adding a new layer of concrete to cover some rough spots will do the job. Polished concrete will look better too if you add some color when you add the new layer.

Compared to wood and carpeted flooring, polished concrete floors have more advantages. Durability is obviously the first since concrete can last longer than wood or carpets. Feasibility would come second in the list, since concrete is more longer-lasting, it will take years before any necessary repair or improvement will be required, unlike with wood and carpet materials. Another advantage is the ease of cleaning polished concrete surfaces and the hassle-free maintenance to keep it in good condition throughout the year. And lastly, the beauty and stylishness that comes from the glossy shine of polished concrete can be said as a work of art that any homeowner can be proud of.

Polished concrete are also popular for use in stairs and countertops. Nowadays it can be seen in a wide variety of homes " from traditional to contemporary " and not just in industrial scenes like before.

Concrete means more now than something used on sidewalks, pavements, and roads " it can be used also by homeowners to improve the look or style of their homes. Because its inexpensive yet elegant look, polished concrete is now popular for household architecture. - 16477

Restoring Your Grout

By Rick Amorey

The first thing one needs to add to surface when putting tiles on a floor, bathroom area, pool, or a kitchen counter is grout. It's a type of cement that holds the tiles in place firmly. That said, it is also a necessity to keep the grout clean. Grout gets dirty very easily, and even be infested with mold and fungi.

But the fact is, grout is a very porous material. Like a sponge, it has a lot of tiny holes, and therefore algae, juice stains, or mold are absorbed into it on an everyday basis. It settles deeper in for every day that it is not cleaned, and consequently the task becomes harder once you decide to do it.

Not only does cleaning up the grout make the area easier on the eyes, but more importantly, it keeps your home a lot more safe in general. I've seen quite a few poorly maintained grout around, and I'll tell you: Out of 10 dirt grouts, 9 can easily be cleaned. If you can't do it, whether by time constraints or other reasons, chances are good you can call up a professional to do it for you.

Before doing anything drastic like totally replacing the grout in your home, I would advise you to look around for a professional grout cleaner first. Professional cleaning services can do the job in a few hours, double that time for a pool area or a similar larger area. Areas that are in really bad shape and really poorly maintained might have the need to be replaced, but even then, grout cleaners will do the removing and replacing for you.

Professional grout cleaners can do the job pretty well and I personally recommend them. As it is their business to clean up grout, they will most likely have the tools and equipment necessary to do the job., and they'll have their own method of cleaning up. You'll be relieved to see your tiles looking great again. - 16477

Living A Cleaner Healthier Life.

By Simon M Skinner

Unless you live off the grid in a remote area (and if so, you're probably not reading this anyway), you no doubt hear a lot about the need to reduce our carbon footprint and to live a greener life. It's important and almost everyone will acknowledge this, but it can feel like you're being lectured at times.

However, there are some easy ways to live a greener life. Curbside recycling is in place in most cities, where you can simply place your recyclables out with your trash for pickup (in a separate container, of course). It's easy to separate your plastic, aluminum and other recyclable materials. The recycling pickup service takes care of the rest ? all you have to do is to take it outside!

One great (and easy) way to live greener is to join your local Freecycle email list. Instead of throwing away unwanted items, you can post them on the list ? it's more than likely that someone will have a need for them. Of course, when you need something, you can look there first before going out and buying new things. Freecycle keeps a lot of trash out of landfills and is a great money saver.

You can substitute some of your household items for more green friendly items. One such item is compact fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs are much more energy efficient, which means that they use a lot less energy (and save you money) while being about the same price as any other light bulbs ? they also last much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

You can also get rid of your existing yard lights and replace them with solar powered lights. These do just as good of a job of illuminating your outdoor spaces, but use no electrical power. You can find solar powered yard lights in a variety of pleasing designs and you can install theme yourself without the assistance of an electrician. Solar powered holiday lights are also available, letting you save money on your electric bill while dressing up your home for the holidays.

Another great way to save money while doing something to live greener is to use rechargeable batteries ? these have greatly improved in recent years and are long lasting, easy too use and of course save money as well. When the batteries are finally used up and cannot take another charge, they may be recycled at almost any hardware store.

It's actually pretty easy to live a greener lifestyle. You can benefit the environment and your pocketbook at the same time. You may soon find yourself looking for more ways to add a little more green to your life. - 16477

Tips on Growing Orchids

By Hans Reinhard

The warm-growing orchids include the popular phalaenopsis, and ideally they should be grown at a minimum winter night temperature of 18C (64F), with a summer day maximum of 32C (90F). However, in indoor conditions, where the atmosphere is naturally drier than in a greenhouse, they seem to do well at temperatures that are closer to those of the intermediate orchids. If you are growing your orchids indoors, you can usually find various positions around the home to suit these different temperature-range plants.

A useful piece of equipment is a maximum/minimum thermometer, or even several, which can be placed close to the orchids and the temperatures noted. In a greenhouse, it becomes difficult to grow orchids from these three ranges together in one place. What suits one group will not suit another, and you will find that inevitably some orchids will suffer from being too cold or too warm. An ideal situation is to divide a greenhouse into two or three sections, depending upon which orchids you wish to grow.

Very small greenhouses are unsuitable because the sections created will be very small and the temperatures extremely difficult to manage. Ideally, two or three small greenhouses where the various temperature-range orchids can each be given their ideal would be best, but this is rather an extravagant option for the home grower

In winter, most orchids, with the exception of the phalaenopsis and paphiopedilums, can take all the light that is available. This will ensure that sufficient ripening of the pseudo bulbs takes place, which is also an important factor in their flowering.

Orchids grown indoors have less light available, and the orchids will only receive this from one direction, so the dangers of giving too much light is not so great a problem. During the winter, it can be a disadvantage if plants are not getting enough light, and it can be difficult to increase this through the window area.

After their winter's rest, orchids commence their new growth in the spring. Repot the plants as soon as this happens and before the new roots start at the base.

The intermediate orchids, which include the showy cattleyas and the handsome, shade-loving paphiopedilums, require a winter night-time temperature that is 3C (5F) higher, giving a minimum of 13C (55F) at night. Wherever possible, there should be a higher temperature by day, but this should not exceed 310 C (86F). Again, temperatures on either side of these recommendations bill cause the plants considerable stress, and over a prolonged period can cause their eventual demise.

Orchids can be fed at all ages, from young seedlings and propagations to adult plants. Feed only healthy plants, however, because they have the ability to absorb and convert the chemicals. Do feed plants that are sick or have lost their roots. New roots that appear may be burnt by the residue remaining in the compost (growing medium). For the same reason, do not feed orchids that are resting. Their roots will have become inactive, and the chemicals will remain in the compost where they may cause harm as the plant sans into growth in the spring. - 16477

Do You Clean Your Kitchen Tiles?

By Sam Weyland

Is your kitchen a clean place? It has to be. Your kitchen, particularly the counter, will be having direct contact with your food, which will in turn have direct contact on your body. So whatever is growing on your counter will likely be eaten by you, in small but continuous amounts.

So unfortunately, you would have to clean your kitchen. Most of you maintain it on a regular basis though, so does that mean that you should be fine? Well, no. There is an often neglected spot in your kitchen counter where most bacteria converge; the grout.

Because of the way grout is composed, they tend to absorb all the ambient particles around it, which includes spoiled food, dust, and slime. As more and more muck get piled up, the particles go deeper in, and thus become a lot harder to clean. So, the longer you don't clean your grout, the more effort you'll have to put in when you finally decide to clean it.

As if bacteria were not enough, leave your kitchen grout untended long enough and it begins to invite the dreaded black mold to grow on it. Known to the scientific world as stachybotrys chartatum, this greenish-black mold makes humans and our pets sick. At its worst, it's been known to cause bleeding in an infant's lungs.

Clean your kitchen grout. Maintain it everyday by washing, and scrub it good with detergent. Coat it with an alcohol and water solution afterwards; spraying the contents onto the surface.

Now, if you find it difficult to clean your grout, then you probably have not cleaned it in a very long time. but don't fret, for you can still hire professional grout cleaners. There's one in Atlanta that I personally recommend, and they are very competent with their job. Call them now, and watch your kitchen grout go clean once more. - 16477

The Art in Concrete Polishing

By William Borris

If there is one thing that I could say about concrete polishing, it's the simple truth that no two jobs are the same. Perhaps that is why there are many craftsmen in the industry. You will not go to this job expecting routine, so you will learn to improvise and, more importantly, you will learn to come to every project prepared.

Being a pessimist going into each project is helpful. Clients who call you up to work on their concrete floors might not have taken completely good care of their floors. Look for cracks, they might have a of these, repeat pourings, or worse, outright potholes. Even with these, you might also see some cases you've never seen before. This is where you must put your resourcefulness to good use.

Remember, no two jobs will be similar. In the same light, know that concrete itself will have different specifications, and one set of diamonds likely won't do the trick. Don't let anyone tell you that there is a magic diamond that will solve all your problems.

If you are just starting on the concrete polishing business, I would advise you to choose the right machine first and foremost. Don't just purchase it by virtue of it being the most expensive. I would especially advise caution against buying from salespeople who claim that their products are the best on their market! In cases like these, always ask for a heads up demonstration first. If they don't want to go through the demo, that most likely means that they're afraid of their product misperforming. Go to the Concrete Polishing website so we can help you choose the right kind.

Polished concrete as an industry is still new, and as such it is filled with people trying to sell new equipment that are supposedly the best. Remember that salesmen are there to sell, but they do not necessarily know what is best. Ask an experienced contractor for help. The most ideal and reliable people to get equipment from are the ones who personally use them for their own business. - 16477

Bathroom Remodeling Software can Help your Remodeling Project

By Chet Lystrom

Your computer can help you with almost anything these days. While it can't do the physical labor for you, it can help you plan things out before you start. In remodeling your bathroom, you can use the computer to help you plan the finances (usually with a Quicken-type program already included in the start-up package), find a contractor (through internet ads), and plan exactly what your remodeled bathroom will look like with bathroom remodeling software.

Let's get the FAQs Please

Although there are some bathroom remodeling software programs available that just concentrate on bathrooms, most will be part of a larger home remodeling software program. When you are finished your bathroom remodeling project, you can still use the software to help you remodel other homes or parts of your house. Once you're done with the program, pass it along to someone else who can use it.

Most software is not cheap, although you can often find it on sale. In any event, the average price for a good bathroom remodeling software program is in the range of $100. Don't download any files offered you on a peer-to-peer network or from a friend's pirated software. You want to make sure your program has the most recent security features and doesn't come spring-loaded with insidious spyware. It's safest (and most economical) to just buy the software.

Programs like SmartDraw, offer free trial versions of their bathroom remodeling software. This is a very simple way of decided which program works best for your and with your computer. Bathroom remodeling programs can help you with every aspect of your project, including budgeting, scheduling and designing.

For example, say you want a new floor for your new bathroom. You'd love a ceramic tile floor, but how much would that cost? Perhaps there are a variety of flooring options for the same price.

You may discover a whole slew of questions that you need the answers to before being able to move forward in your plans. Bathroom remodeling software can help you figure all this out, including estimated costs for the various options available to work with.

Although each software program has differences, most will also have an address book feature where you can put all the contact numbers of all potential contractors or lenders, if you are considering taking out a loan to cover this remodeling project. Using this type of software isn't a sign of unprofessionalism, quite the contrary, since most professional contractors use software of some sort to help them plan their projects. - 16477

How to choose a lawn care company

By Andrew Caxton

In today's concrete world, a lawn is a beautiful deviation and so great importance is attached to it. Also, positive environmental factors of a lawn make it even more desirable. In addition to increasing the property value, a good lawn takes the heat away from the atmosphere and prevents soil erosion. Since maintaining a lawn is an arduous task, many people prefer to hire lawn care companies even though choosing the right company based on your needs is not very easy.

Before deciding which lawn care company you should choose, you have to make up your mind about the kind of quality you want for your lawn. You also have to make a budget plan for lawn care. If you do not want to spend too much money and are satisfied with a mediocre lawn, then choosing a lawn care company will not be very difficult as there are many companies out there that can do an okay-okay job for you. However, if you want your lawn to stand out from the rest, you have to go for a very good lawn company that will give you the results you want, but at a higher cost and more time.

Some more tips on the selection criteria will help you in this direction. To begin with, you have to have a very clear idea of the kind of lawn you want and the changes you want to bring about in your lawn. This is of great help as you can articulate your plans to the lawn care company. Since they know what you are looking for, they will also be able to give you a correct estimate of the money involved.

To make doubly sure that you have opted for the best company for your lawn, go in for a discussion with them about your lawn and its needs. Only if they have the courtesy to pay careful attention to your landscaping and lawn needs and only if they come up with sensible solutions without overlooking the vital points, should you trust any lawn care company. Try and get some information about the kind of experience and training the people of the company have with respect to your lawn. This will ensure that you have no qualms about the lawn care company.

While choosing a lawn care company, never do it through the phone. This could land you in future troubles. The best thing to do is to ask some person from the company to visit you personally so that you can talk about the budget, what kind of maintenance you want and also the specific problems you are facing with your lawn. Be sure to get a written agreement once a decision has been made regarding the pricing and the services required. Inquire into the renewal process of the agreement clause and make sure that that the company does not levy penalty charges if you cancel your service plan before the due date.

Doing some study on the company on the net is the right thing to do before finalizing on the company. You have to find out if the company is insured and licensed. Usually, a company is high on commitment and is equipped with recent news on technical matters and relevant machines like tru-cut lawnmowers, if they belong to a trade association, so check up on the status of your particular company. Also find out if they have the right to use pesticides and what possible consequences it could have for you and your family. - 16477

European Wall Art by Famous Artists Rocks In Wall Decor

By Stacy Mar

Monet, Renoir, van Gogh, Klimt - these names are synonymous with genius and bring to mind some of the world's most brilliant paintings. Seeing these master works for oneself can effect and influence one's whole perception of art. Who wouldn't want to have a source of such inspiration and beauty to enjoy in their own home? By Famous Artists tapestries from Decor4u.com bring it all within your reach. Visit the Tapestry Shop at Decor4u.com and see how the depth and richness of tapestry weaving can bring these magnificent images to vivid life and add drama and style to your wall dcor.

Vincent Willem van Gogh, one of the world's most famous painters, is well known for his unique painting style. Take, for example, Van Gogh's Irises, a reproduction of "Irises, Saint-Remy". A lone white iris stands out, surrounded by a group of blue irises along a garden path. Another stunning van Gogh tapestry is The Starry Night. Based on one of Van Gogh's most famous and recognizable works, it shows a night sky full of glowing, swirling stars and a full moon. Amazingly, van Gogh painted this night scene during the day, entirely from memory. Both of these incredible works of art that have been painstakingly recreated as tapestry wall hangings for your home.

Another familiar van Gogh canvas is Bedroom in Arles. It details the interior of his bedroom at his house in Arles, France, called the Yellow House. An otherwise simple, rustic room with bed, chairs and a table, the space is unique because of its trapezoidal shape. Van Gogh painted no less that three version of Bedroom in Arles. The Bedroom is one of Decor4u.com's tapestries from Belgium and is based on the third version of this work. In all of these tapestries, van Gogh's characteristic use of bold color and forceful painting style have been faithfully reproduced.

Painter Gustav Klimt was perhaps the most famous figure in the Austrian Art Nouveau movement. Among his many paintings, The Kiss stands out as his most widely recognized. In it, a couple embrace, surrounded by a veritable carpet of flowers. The limbs and clothing of the two seem to meld even as they merge with the encircling flora. Klimt painted The Kiss during what is known as his Golden Phase. He started a heavy use of gold leaf in his paintings after returning from Italy, inspired by the resplendent mosaics he saw there. This magnificent tapestry version, one of many tapestries from Europe at Decor4u.com, incorporates the use of actual gold thread to more accurately capture the effect of the Klimt masterpiece.

During the era in which Klimt painted, many of the subjects he painted were considered objectionable. For instance, his painting Lady with Fan. We are shown an intimate glimpse of an anonymous woman. Cheeks flushed, hair loosened, she seems lost in a reverie and unaware that her dressing gown has slipped from her shoulder. We do not see her in a room or with others, instead she stands out against a stylized Art Noveau background of swirling organic motifs. The brilliance of Klimt's brushwork and imagery are expertly preserved by the talented weavers of this decorative tapestry.

Claude Monet is another name that needs little introduction. Founder and principle artist of the Impressionist movement, he is known world wide. It was his painting Impression, Soleil Levant, from which this famous school of painting takes it name. True to the Impressionist belief that art should be inspired by natural forms and scenes, Monet painted extensively from the gardens surrounding his house at Giverny. In Monet's painting, Irises, a cluster of these flowers are shown against a balmy sky. The undulating foliage and petals suggest a gentle breeze. Monet's Irises wall hanging contains all the subtlety and detail of the original work, even including Monet's iconic signature.

Another renowned artist of the French Impressionist school is Pierre-August Renoir. Over the course of his career, he painted thousands of paintings. Some are among the best know images in art and have commanded record breaking prices. A massively talented painter, he was perhaps most adept at creating honest and intimate portraits of people. Take, for example, his painting Dance at Bougival. A young couple is shown enjoying a dance, celebrating life's small but intense pleasures. Renoir's masterly technique in employing color, light and shadow elevates this charming yet simple scene to something more refined. Dance at Bougival Wall Art at Decor4u.com lets you own a true masterpiece for your home.

Paul Ranson was a painter and a member of a group who called themselves Les Nabis, or the prophets. Les Nabis followed the belief that art was not merely symbolic or representational: it was a blending of both. This school of painting would bridge the gap between the Impressionists and the rise of abstract and non-representational art. A case in point is Ranson's Apple Tree with Red Fruit. Although, as the title suggests, the subject is ostensibly a natural scene, a close look at the painting shows the limbs of the trees appear like human arms in a symbolic, rather than realistic gesture. The vivid and distinctive color palette is given an extra dimension when rendered as tapestry art.

Decor4u.com has wall tapestries by well know contemporary artists as well. Bunny Oliver's style shows the influence of her studies with many of the United State's famous present day impressionists. She has given much time and attention to the study of still life as she believes that great beauty can be found in simple, everyday objects. Her painting, Poppies Galore, is a striking example of her finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. A bunch of bold scarlet poppies cascade out of a blue and white vase of Chinese design. In tapestry form, Poppies Galore by Bunny Oliver achieves a new depth and clarity. - 16477

Low Cost Alternatives To Expensive Floors

By Alix Montoya

If you are considering a new floor for your home then you can easily be overwhelmed with choices. This is not a problem. Unfortunately, your budget may not be as cooperative. So when you find your pockets a little to stretched out, you should try out cheaper floor options.

One of the cheapest way to achieve the look your aiming for without shelling out too much for the actual material is by trying laminate flooring. Laminate flooring is inexpensive and easy to install. The best thing is, it can look like the material that you want without costing half as much.

This kind of flooring laminates a photograph of whatever surface you want, marble, wood or stone, directly on the floor. It creates the same surface as these other materials for a lower price. And you can readily install it on top of existing floor fixtures so you won't have to worry about stripping costs.

If you're looking for a strong alternative, try polished concrete. Polished concrete is the best when it comes to durability and cost-effectiveness. It comes with many different options like heaters so it won't get too cold for the feet during winter, and many different colors.

Information on different cheap alternatives are readily provided by contractors. It can save you a lot of money and time. So think about these cheap alternatives and you'll be on your way to the floor of your dreams. - 16477

Critiquing Polished Concrete

By Sam Weyland

A number of people are getting excited about concrete polishing. They say this is the future in flooring, as it relies on the sole premise that concrete is probably in your flooring anyway. But is it really worth it? Is concrete polishing the future of floor design?

Let us enumerate the many advantages concrete polishing claims over its peers. The main ones are beauty, durability, affordability and availability. I will go over each one, and then decide if this flooring method is indeed valuable from there.

The first notion that I will dispel is the claim that polished concrete is pleasing to the eye. It does have a very good, sleek, look, but to me, it is not for everyone. As beauty has been said to lie in the eye of the beholder, I believe that this criterion is not really worth arguing about.

But if beauty is not really an accurate criterion, then durability is. One of the things that you would want from your floor is ability to stay functional for a long time. After all, changing it on a regular basis will quickly result in it being expensive (which we will go to later). Concrete itself is very tough, but the polishing process closes the material, and makes it last even longer. This claim is 100% true.

Affordability, again, is a contested issue. Yes, the cost of having it done by a contractor is relatively cheap. But if you are a dedicated do-it-yourself kind of guy, then you probably won't be fond of concrete polishing. The diamond-related polishers are expensive, and truth be told, you probably won't be able to do as good a job. In short, this option is indeed cheap, but you have to find a contractor that won't screw you over.

Last, but probably the most important to the discussion, would be the all-too hyped claim that concrete is readily available. This is what I contest the most. You see, while concrete in this day and age is literally everywhere, the proper concrete for polishing is another matter entirely. Concrete is indeed a good choice, as long as you have the right concrete to begin with. - 16477

Grout Cleaning Methods

By Rick Amorey

Many of us would have to contend with the necessity to clean his or her grout. You are probably like me; reasonably irritated by the mere prospect of kneeling down and scrubbing in between your bathroom tiles. Not liking it doesn't mean it cannot be ignored, unfortunately. If unhindered, your grout may become a breeding ground for dangerous organisms, most notably the infamous black mold.

So we've established the necessity of cleaning your home's grout, and thus move on to discuss some of the popular cleaning methods. I should of course mention the most obvious solution; manually scrubbing the grout with detergent and an old toothbrush. If you choose to go this route, then I will applaud your futile tenacity. It just isn't worth it, as even with a lot of elbow grease, you will only manage to clean the grout slightly. It will never be clean enough for you.

The next option that would come to mind once you realize that the aforementioned method won't work is finding a better substitute for the detergent. If this is the case, then you will note that there are many homemade solutions available online. Of these, many (such as vinegar) won't work. So how do you know which one will? In my personal experience, chlorine bleach is able to clear out grout dirt well, but it will also discolor your grout and tiles. You may need to find an alternative if your grout is dyed.

Now another thing that you may notice while out there shopping for the right solution is the prevalence of machines designed for the job. Most popular among these is the electric scrubber. This is perfect for reducing your sweat work, but still ineffective if you do not have the right cleansing solution. And don't even think about going for the bigger machines; they are difficult to wield and easy to misuse. If that happens, it could lead to accidentally damaging the tiles themselves.

Which brings me to a sudden flash of insight; why don't you consider hiring grout cleaning professionals? They are adept at handling these big machines, and I'm certain that they will do the job better than you, even on your best day. Just remember to start maintaining the grout after they clean it up, so that you don't have to call them as often. A simple way to perform this upkeep is to spray some alcohol onto the4 grout every night. This'll prevent any bad buildup. - 16477

You and Your Carbon Footprint

By Tal Potishman

A trend has been emerging in the UK in which talk of energy conservation inevitably turns to an individual's "carbon footprint." The news, radio, television, magazines and internet have all been sources of "carbon footprint" mania.

What does the term "carbon footprint" mean? This term can best be defined as the level of impact a person has on the environment. This measurement of this impact takes into account a person's actions and his or her home and is then based on the amount of greenhouses those action and that home produces. Then the amount of greenhouse gases produced is measured in units of carbon dioxide. There are a few ways that a person can figure his or her carbon footprint: The amount of emissions caused by the energy a system uses and the Life Cycle Assessment are the two most popular methods.

Almost every single thing a person does during his waking hours can raise the level of his carbon footprint. Technically, breathing out increases his carbon footprint as the simple act of breathing in and out results in an increased level of carbon dioxide in the world.

Rest assured that nobody is going to figure in your rate of respiration into your carbon footprint. Doing so would be absurd. Instead your carbon footprint is calculated based on the things you actually do and use. When you drive to the shop or cook food, you produce carbon dioxide. The amount of energy you consume as a person, in your house, at your workplace and in transit will all be figured in to your carbon footprint. Be prepared for a large number"people produce an astounding amount of carbon dioxide each day.

Carbon footprints have become more important over the last few years because the globe's climate has changed quite dramatically. Environmental experts have released reports that state that human beings are directly responsible for the increase in carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases that have helped to raise the world's temperature. The world's temperature rose by .6 degrees Celsius in the last one hundred years. .6 does not sound like a huge amount but it has had a large impact. The North Pole is breaking apart as you read this. Syria has more freshwater available than the United Kingdom

There are quite a few things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. The best way to reduce your carbon footprint is to reduce your energy consumption! Unplug phone chargers and appliances when they are not in use, use only the lights you need while you need them, etc. Another good way to reduce your carbon footprint is to reduce your dependence on your automobile. Recycle everything you can!

The good news is that there are many things you can do to lower your carbon footprint. Your carbon footprint can be drastically reduced simply by reducing the amount of energy you use each day! Don't leave your appliances or chargers plugged in when you are not using them. Only turn on the lights you actually need and turn them off when you leave the room. Recycle everything that can be recycled! - 16477

Coffee on the Floor

By Rick Amorey

Some of you may be familiar with my concrete polishing already; doing some renovating at home, I decided to have my concrete floor polished. It was a general renovation of the house, so there were also a lot of new improvements. Everything from the paint on the wall to my kitchen equipment was new, but the floor is still the star. It attracts so much attention, in fact, that hardly anyone notices my new espresso machine.

They were nevertheless able to notice my fancy new coffee maker when I served them some of my home brew. As coffee breaks go, there were a variety of topics, but what they kept going back to was my polished, concrete floor. They wondered how I was able to do that on my own; it was as if I joined the secretive Freemasons, and they taught me their secret.

Unfortunately for my friends, I do not know a secret handshake that initiates me into an elite concrete polishing club. I may have done most of the renovation work myself, including replacing some destroyed wooden floors upstairs, but the Concrete Polishing was not me. Well, it was me who initially removed the unsightly tiles that I used to call the house's flooring, but my only real part in that was going online to find a contractor in my area. He did most of the work for me.

So if you're like some of my friends who'd want to consider Concrete Polishing for their home, I'd heartily recommend the Concrete Polishing website to find a contractor in your area as well. They can do a better job at it than you would be able to on your best day, as they have the experience, equipment and know-how. Now if you must insist on knowing how it is done, the equipment involves the utilization of diamonds of varying grit for coarse grinding, and a higher one for the actual polishing.

Your floor will look amazing when polished, and I also noticed that they add in densifiers at certain time intervals. This would help in making the concrete last. Finally, you could have some color added to it; mine sports a coffee finish that I'm proud of. - 16477

You're Bathroom Vanity the life of the party

By Antonio A. Zidan

Believe it or not, there is a certain science to choosing a bathroom vanity that is going to correctly represent the rest of your home as well as your restroom. The mirror in the bathroom is one of the things your guests are guaranteed to notice because they will by habit check their appearance in the mirror before leaving the restroom. You may not think that this item holds much weight, out of all your decorative items, but as you read you will see that is not the truth.

Your restroom is the one spot in your home that your guests are going to visit alone, which means that they will not be distracted by conversation when observing the way you decided to decorate it. Plus, since as mentioned, checking your appearance while washing your hands is a habit, the bathroom vanity may be the most acknowledged wall decoration that you own throughout your entire home no matter what your decorating tastes are like.

In the overall design of your indoor outhouse realizing that the bathroom vanity is the most important item is key. This is because it is the only item that you can control the size of. It might sound strange but your shower, toilet and sink are actually considered bathroom furniture. When putting your indoor outhouse design on paper you need to keep in mind that the furniture will not be changed out as often as the mirror or vanity would be because of the layout of the pipes.

The wrong size bathroom vanity can throw off the entire balance of a room, so you need to pick a mirror that fits accordingly above sink in your bathroom. A standard role of thumb to follow is to size your mirror according to the size of your sink, choosing a slightly smaller mirror if you have a large sink, and a larger mirror if you have a small sink. The idea here is that you do not want to overstate either item, so you are in essence aiming for a delicate balance.

If you have a larger sink, a bathroom vanity that is smaller in size will allow you to add a few accessories that will bring out the trimming. For example, if you choose a wooden trimmed mirror, then small wooden potpourri holders will nicely bring the wood full circle while also adding a bit of a pleasant scent and taste to the room.

Bathroom design is questioned every minute of the day when you walk into your bathroom to figure out if you need to change something to make it stand out more to your guests. When using the wood theme, you can add wooden towel racks to the right or left side of your wood stained bathroom vanity mirror. When you are working with wood as your theme you can add some rich tones such as red, green or tan. When you add natural tones to your bathroom it will help your theme is visible to your guests. If any towel holders are being added to the room you need to make sure that they have matching stain as the rest of the bathroom.

Overall, once you get the sizing of your bathroom vanity correct, the only thing you have to consider is the trimming which is dependent on your theme. The mirror will demand attention on its own so long as it matches the overall theme of the bathroom, whether that is clean and sharp, or earthy and warm. - 16477

Leave Grout Cleaning to the Pros

By Sam Weyland

Grout cleaning is not as easy as grabbing a mop and cleaning your floor willy-nilly. Try this, and you may be able to clean up the tiles a bit, but will most likely not even remove the grout in between tiles. This may not seem like a big deal, but the accumulated dirt in your grout has been known to induce tiredness. Moving from the restroom back to your office desk is tiring because of unclean grout.

Even if you like the contrast between the spotless bright tiles and the dirty black grout, you should not let this small space on your floor accumulate dirt. If that is truly your fancy, then I suggest having the grout stained at a later date. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and have that grout cleaned now.

Are you asking me how to clean your grout? That's a start, but we still have a long way to go, my friend. There are numerous products marketed out there at outrageous prices, all of them claiming to be the answer to your grout problem. Few even work. If you want to go this path, I suggest you prepare yourself for a long road of disappointment; you will, however, find a brand that fits your floor eventually.

If you're looking for equipment to do the job, there are also innumerable items out there. Look around and you'll see a whole lot of electronic scrubbers available for purchase, but I would advise you to go research more about these. Maybe it's just me, but if you're going to be using machinery anyway, leave it to the professionals who know what they're doing and won't accidentally damage, or worse, destroy your floor.

My best advice for cleaning grout? Simply put, just hire professional grout cleaners. They will have their own machinery available immediately, and they will be able to thoroughly clean out your tiles and grout. Maybe even looking as new as they day they were installed. Contact a professional grout cleaner. They know what they're doing. - 16477

Buying a refrigerator

By reklicom

Second hand refrigeration equipment is often thought to be good value for money for the small to medium catering or leisure business. Unfortunately, as many will testify, this is a false economy.

From the simple working model created by John Goriie in 1844 to the modern fridge units of today, the refrigerator has become one of the essential part of every modern kitchen. From storing our favorite foods to providing refreshing ice, the refrigerator is one device that most of us would not want to live without. It replaced the ice box, which had been a common household appliance for almost a century and half a prior.

In fact with most new units, it's rare to see a need for repairs years beyond any warranty the manufacturers give. Although new equipment might be more expensive in terms of capital outlay, the cost of keeping the machine going will be significantly less over the long term, which will save you money as well as produce better results.

This will help to keep the door of the refrigerator closed during the heat of the day. Also, make sure your refrigerator isn't so crammed full of stuff that it can't "breathe". Refrigerators need good air circulation to work efficiently.

You can also install a fan in the rear part of the refrigerator to help the air flow through the condenser fins at the top of the cooling unit. Slip a piece of paper between the door and the refrigerator cabinet; then close the door. If you don't feel a slight resistance when you pull the paper out from the door, then the seal is leaking. Replace the seal as soon as possible.

Commercial refrigeration depends on reliability and quality, and even the best second hand equipment can't offer that with certainty. The only way to personally ensure your business is covered is to invest in new refrigeration equipment.

As time went by, ammonia was replaced with a safer refrigerant called Freon or R-12, ever since this new substance started to be used to make refrigerators work this machine became highly commercial since it was now safe and convenient to use.

Additionally, you can generally get a fair idea of the state of the vehicle simply by looking at it, which means you can weigh up your decision effectively, even without a trained eye. Add to that a record of past ownership and an indication of level of use through mileage and you're going to be capable of forming a rounded opinion.

As you can see, the refrigerator is a critical appliance which has to be working at all times, otherwise our foods get spoiled, but what happens when something goes wrong with it, do you panic and buy a new one or do you try to fix the problem?

rained eye, you'd find it hard to predict the lifespan of any particular second hand unit. On top of that, there's no way of knowing how old the unit is, or under what conditions it has been used. In fact, you don't even know that the unit is working effectively, and there's no way to tell until it ruins stock. - 16477

Why Get A DIY Wind Power Kit?

By M B Bean

Want a way to reduce the amount you spend each year on your electricity bill? If so, why not think about getting a DIY wind power system installed at your home if it is viable? By installing this type of renewable energy system at your home you could find yourself cutting your yearly electricity bill by as much as 90 percent.

The only that you need in order to make sure that the DIY wind power system you install operates at effective levels is to make sure that there is enough wind. In order for such systems to operate at their best the wind that gusts around your home shouldn't go below a speed of 10 miles per hour.

When it comes to making wind power you will find it is far easier than you first thought possible. However, in order for you to know how to make electricity from wind power you first need to understand the way in which it works. Below we show you the basics of how electricity is produced through wind.

At the top of the DIY wind power pole are rotors which turn as the wind blows against them. It is this turning motion that creates kinetic and motion energy which will be converted into electricity by the turbine attached to the rotors. Once the kinetic and motion energy has been converted then this is what you will use to run different pieces of electrical equipment in your home.

As for what system to use you will discover there are two to select from. You can either go for a grid connected or battery operated one and both of which will ensure that sufficient amounts of electricity is provided to run the various electrical equipment that you have in your house.

For those who live somewhere that wind speeds are fast and constant may find that they can become completely self sufficient and don't need to rely heavily on their local power grid anymore. If you live in such a location it is still advisable to remain connected to the local power grid in case there are times when the wind speeds do drop below the recommended speed. This way you have a backup supply if needed.

The main times when you will need to possibly rely on the local power grid to provide electricity for your home even if you have a DIY wind power system is when wind speeds go below 10 mph. But don't forget that as soon as you notice the wind speeds have risen again you should switch back over to your own electricity generating system. If you don't then your electricity bills will become high once more.

It is important that you note that there are certain advantages to be had from installing a DIY wind power system over other types of renewable energy systems. The main ones of these being that they are relatively inexpensive to install and don't need the same amount of care and attention as other types of renewable energy systems need. - 16477

Piano Covers should be Used to Preserve Your Instrument

By Chuck R Stewart

Over the years piano owners have reverted to using many unusual items to cover and protect their valuable investment. Whether the piano is an acquisition saved up for and bought by the homeowner, or an heirloom passed down from Great Grandmas estate, it should be cared for and stored with the proper piano covering.

In the past, I have noticed lots of things act as piano coverings. Grandmas old quilt, blankets, newspapers, bed sheets and plastic are some such coverings Ive noticed in peoples homes. Once, I even saw floor to ceiling drapes coming down from the window and splayed out over the piano in a failed attempt to protect the homeowners musical instrument. In fact, it is not too unusual for the elegant piano (or organ) to look like the long forgotten treadmill in the bedroom, draped with all kinds of clothing, towels and bathrobes. None of these are ideal solutions.

It is important for a piano that is not being used often to be sheltered from the damaging effects of the sun. The stained wood piano should not be exposed to continuous, direct sunlight. With continuous exposure, ultraviolet rays can create hairline cracks in the finish or cause fading or darkening. Few owners have the financial resources to have their windows fitted with a special ultraviolet protective film or glass. A very good substitute is a professionally constructed piano cover. The piano, whether it is an upright or grand, should be sheltered with a true piano covering made for the precise dimensions of the furniture. This will prolong the beauty and elegance of the piano.

Dust damage can be another hazard to the piano which is sitting dormant in the home. Besides the unsightliness, dust and dirt gathering on the keys will eventually cause them to stick and become difficult to play. Dust and grime on the wood or lacquer finish of the piano can be abrasive. Just wiping the instrument clean can scratch the finish. The inner workings of the piano can be greatly damage by dust.
